A comprehensive system of analysis

What is SOT?

An indicator based method of analyzing a patient

While most think of SOT as a "low force adjusting technique", it is so much more. Contrary to popular belief, SOT is actually an indicator based method of analyzing a patient to determine what is happening on a macro scale, but also what needs to be addressed on a given visit. Neuroligic indicators point the doctor to what needs to be addressed, and the doctor can then treat and REASSESS to determine if the applied therapy achieved the desired result. While SOT has many specific adjusting maneuvers unique to SOT, many other adjusting techniques can easily be assimilated into SOT's diagnostic protocol. Think of SOT as the framework, the big box into which you can organize all your other techniques and tools.

A trained SOT chiropractor has a truly holistic and comprehensive approach to the patient. The spine, fascia, extremities, cranium, TMJ, and even organs and metabolic health are part of the analysis. SOT utilizes one of the most comprehensive forms of cranial work in physical medicine, and integrates it into the SOT system as a whole.

Sacro Occipital Technique was developed by Dr. Major DeJarnette, who was a chiropractor (DC), Osteopathic doctor (DO), and engineer. He developed a technique that took what he felt like were the best parts of chiropractic and osteopathy, and then added his knowledge of systems and structures via his engineering background, to develop this comprehensive, indicator based system.

Based on our history, exam, and neurologic indicators the SOT trained doctor puts the patient into one of 3 categories. Think of the categories as the big picture, macro perspective of what is happening with the patient physiologically, neurologically, and structurally. On a micro scale, on each visit we use indicators to determine what to address on a given day. Over time the patient's category designation changes, and we then have a different set of goals and specific therapies that are appropriate for that patient given the change in their overall condition.

Our Story

Sacro Occipital Technique Organization-USA (SOTO-USA) is a501(c)(3) non- profit organization which promotes the preservation, teaching, research and innovation of the Sacro Occipital Technique method of chiropractic.

We are dedicated to teaching SOT as developed by its founder, Dr. Major DeJarnette, as a standardized and unified method. It is vital to preserve a standardized and agreed upon method of SOT that can be tested, researched, learned, and passed on. However, we also acknowledge the amazing innovations and techniques that our members have added to SOT over the years, and believe it's vital to encourage and celebrate these developments that were built on the framework of SOT. In this way we preserve our history and foundation, consistently put out research that tests our methods and asks questions, while simultaneously fostering an environment for innovation.
